Whether it s the blinding sun, the bite of the cold, or the neighbours wandering eyes you want to keep out, our collection of curtains and blinds are the perfect window dressings.
Alongside their functional purpose, curtains and blinds also have the power to transform a room completely. At the very least, they ll complement your d cor and freshen up the place. And they can also play another key role; protecting your furniture from fading caused by those sun rays (when they do shine through).
SHOULD YOU CHOOSE CURTAINS OR BLINDS?
There are pros and cons to both, so how can you decide whether your window needs a blind or a pair of new curtains? That depends on the look you re going for, and possibly the type of room you re renovating.
If you want flexibility over how much light is allowed into the room, and are after a clean and subtle finish, blinds might be the way to go. They also cut down on space, as there s no need for poles or holdbacks. If it s a room where there s a lot of moisture, such as a bathroom or kitchen, blinds are also recommended.
For a more dramatic and statement look, curtains may be the way to go. They can help to turn a window into a feature, and there s the bonus of being able to shut them totally to offer complete privacy. Well hung curtains can also keep out draughts from the window, which is helpful in winter.
Want a bit of both? No problem plenty of people combine curtains and blinds for a bold statement.
WHAT STYLE SHOULD YOU GO FOR?
When it comes to our fully line, ready made curtains, you re pretty much all set as soon as you buy. Coming with either a slot top, tab top, or with eyelets, they ll easily slide onto your curtain pole without the need for threading hooks into the linings.
Our roller blinds come with a rod and a simple chain mechanism, which makes opening and closing them a breeze.
One of the key considerations you ll have is whether you want the curtains or blinds to be a feature of the room, or to fade into the background and let your other furniture take centre stage. Perhaps you have a set colour palette; in that case, you can use the shop by filters on the left-hand side of this page to refine your search.
You can also search by material type; whether you prefer traditional cotton or a more lightweight and airy linen, you ll find what you re looking for.
HOW TO MEASURE FOR CURTAINS AND BLINDS
Particularly when buying curtains and blinds online, measuring your windows properly is essential. For curtains, you need to consider the width, as well as the drop (the length of the curtains).
When you measure the width of your window, ensure the pole is around 15-20cm wider than the window frame, to allow for additional space to let the curtains hang correctly when tied back. A pair of curtains should be around 2 to 2.5 times wider than the window, so a 1.5m wide window would need a pair of 1.5m wide curtains (totalling 3m).
When measuring the drop, measure from the top of the pole to the floor. Your curtains should hang around 2cm from the floor if they re going full length. Our curtains come in a range of lengths; 170cm, 230cm, 260cm and 280cm.
When it comes to blinds, the key is to decide whether you want the blind to hang inside the window recess or outside. If you want total coverage, outside is your best bet, but if you prefer things looking neat and tidy, stick to inside the recess.
All our blinds come with a drop of 170cm, which you can easily tailor with the roller mechanism. The width of the blind can be cut down to size to fit any smaller window.
If you re still unsure, you ll find more information in our useful curtain and blind buying guide.
